Chris Froome suffers broken collarbone in crash at UAE Tour
The 39-year-old Briton sustained the injury in a mass pile-up in the opening 10km of Sunday’s final stage.
His team Israel-Premier Tech said: “A CT scan confirmed a fracture to the right clavicle. Chris will be examined tomorrow [Monday] by an orthopedic surgeon to find out if an operation will be necessary to stabilise his fracture.”
The injury casts doubt on how much Froome can compete in what is expected to be his final season in cycling.
The two-time Olympic bronze medallist, who has also won two Vuelta a Espana titles and the Giro d’Italia, hinted in December, external he may retire after this year’s Vuelta in September.
