All-conquering Wigan Warriors have been named BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year 2024.

They dominated men’s rugby league throughout the year, winning every major trophy available to them.

Matt Peet’s side completed the quadruple by securing the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final.

It meant Wigan repeated the feat of their 1994 side – 30 years on – of winning every major honour over a single campaign.

Since 2022, Wigan have won seven major trophies under Peet – despite the coach taking charge of fewer than 100 games.

The Warriors’ historic year started in February, when they beat Australian champions Penrith Panthers 16-12 in Wigan in the World Club Challenge.

It marked the fifth time Wigan have won the annual fixture – the most of any English side and a joint record with Sydney Roosters.

Their second major title arrived in June, when Wigan beat Warrington Wolves 18-8 at Wembley to win the Challenge Cup.

Wigan then secured the League Leaders’ Shield by finishing top of the Super League standings, winning 22 of their 27 regular-season fixtures.

They advanced to the play-offs, where after thrashing Leigh 38-0 they beat Hull KR 9-2 in the final at Old Trafford to be crowned Grand Final champions – and quadruple winners.

Wigan become the second successive club from the north west of England to win the Sports Personality Team of the Year trophy, following Premier League champions Manchester City in 2023.
